| OK quick history lesson.I have played guitar since the tender age of 13 and took up the sax at 40. As I have now passed the half century mark (by 4 years!) I do draw on lots of influences. Jazz has always been a passion especially european jazz that I discovered on the ECM label in the 70's. Blues was and still is my main music and althought my two CDs' SOLO and Gallery are mainly jazz influenced look out for a new blues band Last Train.
I have been involved in many bands and musical projects over the years. One of the oldest that is still (very seldom!) on the go is the New Garden Band who are Ray Palfreyman- sax and electric guitar, Mike Reay -bass,electric and accoustic guitars and recording wizzard, and John Davies- vocals and everything else! See Johns' site. |

Here is a bit of real history, a live recording of The Garden Band (ver 2) at the Gosforth Park in Newcastle about 1980. The track Makin Bacin (say in Geordie accent) was written by John and features his good self on alto sax , flute and vocals, Mike on bass and vocals, me on guitar and a guy called Eric (can't remember his second name although he was one of the loudest and most emotional drummers I've ever played with) on drums. For the technically minded it was recorded on Mikes' Revox tape recorder with one mic by our amazing roadie Viv!.....primitive times!!........ mind listening back to it now it sure sounds like it. The newest solo outing for me so far in 2005 is with Ian Greenwood who is an independant producer / DJ , whos' material is often released in the States. His latest track, KUMALA, has me playing tenor sax over one of Ians' cool chillout grooves and is out on an EP in the states.
